Jackson was different because he was equal (or close to) to Bowen defensively during the Spurs title run. He was a huge difference maker on both aisles.

Pity they let him go, they would have three-peated and been in a fabulous state as the best team in the league not just until now but for another 2-3 seasons also. A truly awful decision in letting him leave. They compounded that with another awful decision in the draft that year.

___________

It's too late now since San An spent the money but I felt like adding my two cents anyway because I loved the idea at the time. JR Smith would have been an excellent fit in San Antonio. He's exactly the type of fourth scorer that that ball club is crying out for. His perimeter game would be a perfect fit, his ability to run the floor would give Manu+Tony someone to run with, and his penetration in the halfcourt would take some pressure of their trio who presently need to create every shot for both themselves and their supporting cast.

JR Smith has also shown an interest in improving his defense over the past few months. You can see his increased efforts on that end. Unfortunately he's still woeful but you got to like the fact he wants to improve there. He would play D in San An and in time he could become a solid defender.
