Yeah, I definitely agree about the Rockets’ defense. It’s nice to have Mutombo’s shot-blocking to complement Scola and Hayes, who seem to play defense more with their feet and with positioning. Good point on that as team defense is often lost in the commentary. The funniest thing is that they’re seemingly playing better defense under Adelman than JVG! Holla, Van Gundy!

Your argument is something I would whole-heartedly agreed with earlier on this season. I get the importance of having bigs that can get them easy buckets.

All I’m saying is that they’ve lost multiple playoff series with Yao, a quality big man inside. It seems to me that they need more than just a big in the middle. Toronto had Chris Bosh last year and still lost to the Nets — who didn’t have a guy who could play with his back to the basket. The Heat, with Shaq, lost to a Bulls team that didn’t have a big.

Maybe Dannie is right in saying that they’re better equipped now that their role players have stepped up.

All I’m saying is that it’s possible. Where streaks happen, baby!

yeah got you there man, 10 straight without yao. but the playoffs is a different kind of monster. sure landry, scola and hayes can handle the front court for now, but what will happen to them in the playoffs? do you think they can can have someone to cover boozer, duncan, amare and shaq? sure they are playing great TEAM basketball right now and I agree that there is hope for them, but how are they going to cover the BIG men of the west?

In the past they have relied heavily on their two stars, especially McGrady. During this streak McGrady’s performance has been nothing above what he normally does, so that means everyone and I mean EVERYONE has stepped their game up to an entirely new level. When they get in the playoffs they will have gotten used to their new role and team style of play especially on offense. Then you don’t have Tracy carrying them all game, rather just at the end when it counts. PLUS – they are rivaling Boston in terms of how good they are on defense as a team.

Seeing as though they’ve struggled in years past when one of their superstars have gone down, this season’s streak stands out as different. Exhibit A on how hot-streaking teams can make noise in the playoffs are last year’s Golden State Warriors. There is hope yet in Clutch City.
